Greeters.

The Ministry of Hospitality....otherwise known as the "Greeters"

What We Do:
We arrive 15 min before Mass and stand at the entrance of the Church to welcome the parishioners, the strangers, the shy, the new-in-town and the infrequent worshippers to be at home at St. Catherine's. Some of us greet from outside if the weather is nice. We smile. We look them in the eyes as we say "Good Morning" or "Good Evening". If they extend a hand, we shake their hand. We introduce newcomers to the Priest. We acknowledge people with disabilities. We stay at the door until the entrance hymn concludes and continue to quietly greet late comers.

Who is Eligible:
Everyone, from a babe in arms to a person who needs a rocker to greet people. Single teens greet, paired with others, because their family volunteers in other ways. Whole families greet together. Everyone gets a nametag. Single persons are paired in groups of two or three to get to know other people. The schedule is rotated or you are kept with one person if you wish.

How do I know when I am assigned to be a "greeter":
A schedule is published every 3 months. It is either mailed to your home address or sent to your email account. A schedule is posted on the bulletin board at the back of the church and on the website. People are scheduled no more than once a month and no less than once every 3 months, depending on the number of "greeters." You may ask to be scheduled more or less frequently. You are assigned to be a "greeter" for the regular Mass or Masses you attend.

What if I can not be a "greeter" the date scheduled:
We ask that you switch dates with another greeter on the list. Contact lists are provided of the names and phone numbers of other greeters for your Mass. You may also send out a general request to the "greeter" email distribution list. As a last resort, just tell the coordinator and she will find a replacement.

How do I sign up:

Two ways:
1. Anytime you can call the Church office or fill out a welcome form and you will be referred to the coordinator of the "greeter" program.
2. During the annual Stewardship Drive, you can check the box saying you would like to donate your time to being a "Greeter".

How long am I committed for:
As long as you want. If you go to Florida for the winter, just let us know. We can put you on temporary "inactive" status. You may decide to stop anytime you wish or continue being "Greeters" as long as you are a member of the Parish.
